Pure 2D Sonic game “under discussion”

If there’s one thing that most Sonic fans can agree upon, it’s that creating a completely 2D Sonic might be best for the direction of the series. Tetsu Katano, who has been busy directing Sonic and the Black Knight, recently spoke about a 2D Sonic game. When asked if a pure 2D Sonic experience is being made in a video interview, Katano said, “Obviously we do like to target the core users of Sonic games, but it’s still under discussion so I can’t say a lot about it.” Though Katano was unwilling to confirm anything outright, fans of Sonic who believe the series should be left in 2D can hold on to the words that a pure 2D game is “under discussion.”

Meanwhile, Yuji Naka also spoke in the same interview and provided a few tidbits: More “Let’s” games might be created depending on the sales of Let’s Tap, Prope is looking into the functionality of Wii MotionPlus, and that the company is open to developing games with new types of characters.
