Red Dead Redemption frame rate resolution

Digital Foundry has offered up a closer look at the Switch version of Red Dead Redemption, covering the frame rate, resolution, and more. Overall, this is largely what was expected when it was announced – a mostly straightforward port with some smaller upgrades.

Here’s the full rundown:

– Much of HUD overlay is 720p
– Ported by Double Eleven
– Native 1080p resolution when docked
– Red Dead Redemption Switch portable mode resolution is native 720p
– Original game was 720p
– Switch has an anti-aliasing technique, but doesn’t improve things as much as the alternate option on PS4
– Much clearer picture than the Xbox 360 original
– LOD settings for geometry and plants are identical
– Many buildings pop in at the same range on Switch as Xbox 360
– Core texture work same as the original
– Boost to shadow quality on Switch
– Slight change in screen space reflections on water during opening cutscene
– Low texture filtering quality across the ground on Switch
– Red Dead Redemption has 30 FPS frame rate on Switch, with some exceptions
– Occasional sign of uneven frame pacing
– Frame rate also stable in Undead Nightmare expansion
– Frame rate is a big upgrade over the original Xbox 360 version
