Rumor: Developers told Switch 2 not coming until April 2025 at the earliest
August 13: One of the big questions surrounding Nintendo’s next console – which many have dubbed Switch 2 – is when it’ll be launching. Nintendo has said very little, only confirming that an announcement will be made by the end of the fiscal year. That means we’ll be hearing about the console by the end of March 2025 at the latest.
Chris Dring, who leads things over at GamesIndustry, may have some insight. Dring shared what he’s heard after speaking with multiple developers, who all believe it won’t be out this fiscal year. He went on to say that these teams were actually informed not to count on it arriving during the current fiscal year – meaning not before April 2025. Some developers hope it could be ready by April or May, but that’s obviously far from confirmed.
When Nintendo’s next system releases, Switch will be at least eight years old. The platform originally came out on March 3, 2017.
Some have hoped that Switch 2 could follow a similar reveal as the current Switch. The console was first teased with a trailer in October 2016. Nintendo then gave a proper blowout the following January, which included multiple game reveals, a release date for the system, and more. That all culminated with the launch in March.
August 14: Eurogamer has heard similar things and backed up the report. That still shouldn’t be taken as confirmation, but make of that what you will.
