Rumor: Nintendo Switch 2 to have three-phase launch plan for games, possible June launch
According to a report from Insider Gaming, Nintendo is planning a three-phase launch plan for Switch 2 games. This seems to be based on what the outlet has heard coming out of GDC 2025 last week.
The first part of the release will apparently begin with a focus on first-party games at launch. The second stage, which is claimed to be happening between October and November, will be for third-party studios. Following that is the third phase during the holiday period, though specifics weren’t provided.
Insider Gaming further notes that many third-parties are expecting Nintendo Switch 2 development kits to be sent in June. However, we believe that this would applies to smaller teams. The big guns – companies such as Square Enix, Capcom, and Ubisoft – have likely already received access and were provided with hardware significantly earlier than that.
There are a couple of other nuggets as well. First, the developers Insider Gaming spoke to believe that Nintendo is planning a June launch. Additionally, select media and creators will be attending Nintendo Switch 2 hands-on event next week, which hardly comes as a surprise.
We’ll be hearing more about Switch 2 from Nintendo officially in just one week. A Nintendo Direct event will be broadcasted on April 2.
