Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai working on new game

Masahiro Sakurai wrapped up his YouTube channel, and one of the major tidbits shared during the video is that the Smash Bros. director has been busy working on a new game.

Sakurai said that he was asked to write a proposal for a new game while working on the last round of DLC for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which he finished “at lightning speed.” Unfortunately though, he didn’t give any sort of details about what the project is. He only left fans with the following: “I’m sorry I can’t share more about this project, but assuming that we’re able to get it made, it should be announced sooner or later.”

Sakurai did say that after working on his proposal, he was able to move forward with production, adding “it was going to take some time to assemble the right team.” He then said: The target timeframe was April 2022. Until then, I would have to wait.”

The main point in sharing this information is that Sakurai had a few months of downtime before work on the new game truly started. Feeling that “this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity”, he made the decision to start his YouTube channel and share his knowledge about working on games. Believe it or not, “all the footage prior to this video was recorded over two and a half years ago.”
