Nintendo Switch 2 update apparently broke Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
Numerous players are reporting issues with Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl following this week’s firmware update for Nintendo Switch 2.
Note that both Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch are now at version 21.0.0. However, we can’t quite confirm at present if the same issues are happening on the previous console. We’ll update this post if that changes.
We’re not entirely sure what’s going on, but those who installed the new version 21.1.0 update are experiencing crashing in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl while playing on Nintendo Switch 2. This can begin as early as the initial boot. It apparently doesn’t happen every single time, but pretty often for some. Once the game crashes, you’ll see a black screen with the following message: “There was a problem, and the software needed to close.”
Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl aren’t the only games impacted by this week’s update. Brace Yourself confirmed that Crypt of the NecroDancer is now crashing as well – seemingly only on Nintendo Switch 2 (and not Switch 1).
As for Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, we imagine that there’ll be some sort of update in the future – whether it’s new system firmware or a game-specific patch. We’ll keep an eye out for any notable developments.
For those wondering about this week’s Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch version 21.0.0 update, we have the patch notes here.
