Triumvirate guide Splatoon 3

The Triumvirate is a new King Salmonid challenge introduced alongside Splatoon 3’s Big Big Run event. Like the other King Salmonid battles, the Triumvirate has a chance of appearing at the end of Wave 3 if your King Salmonid meter is full. When it appears, you’ll need to take on a Cohozuna, Horroboros, and Megalodontia all at once. This is one of Splatoon 3’s greatest challenges, and we’ve written up a Triumvirate guide with all of the best strategies and tips for taking down all three King Salmonids in one go. When the Triumvirate appears, you will be given a random Grizzco weapon, which means there’s a certain element of randomness to winning the battle.

Triumvirate guide and strategies

Big Big Run Triumvirate Guide

When a Triumvirate shows up, you’ll have to fight a Cohozuna, Horrorboros, and Megalodontia at the same time. They’ve all got separate health bars, too. Generally, you’ll still want to defeat as many Boss Salmonids as you can and use their Golden Eggs to throw at the King Salmonids’ weak points. It’s especially important to focus your efforts on Boss Salmonids, in fact, because pesky shore bosses like Flyfish and Stingers can easily end your run coupled with the King Salmonids’ attacks. Megalondontia locks onto a single player, and anything within its range – including both players and other Boss Salmonids – will go down. Use this to your advantage, and remember that Megalodontia’s weak spot will always appear opposite of the direction you are facing when it targets you. Try to use this knowledge to your advantage! When you see its reticle appear over you, head over to a spot with a lot of Boss Salmonids and face away from your teammates if you can. That way, they’ll be able to toss any Golden Eggs they have at Megalodontia’s weak spot and you’ll leave a bunch of Golden Eggs for them to use afterward. Megalodontia can also damage the other King Salmonids, so you may want to keep it alive longer than the others.

At the time of writing, the game will assign you a full team of Grizzco weapons whenever a Triumvirate appears. This means you’ll generally have much more powerful weapons than normal, and a lot of the Grizzco weapons are capable of dealing huge damage to the King Salmonids. Grizzco Charger and Stringer, in particular can shred Horrorboros’ Booyah Bomb and take it down fast. That being said, you will still want to focus on the Boss Salmonids to an extent – the Triumvirate is threatening, but as we mentioned, Flyfish and Stingers can easily pick off weakened teammates while you’re trying to focus on the King Salmonids. You will also get two specials during a Triumvirate wave instead of just one. Make sure you use them!

Have you managed to encounter a Triumvirate in Splatoon 3, and if so, have you somehow managed to defeat one already? Let us know in the comments down below! We have a guide for Big Run events already written, and the tips and tricks in it apply to Big Big Run as well. If you’re new to Big Run in general, we’d recommend giving it a read – you cannot even encounter a Triumvirate unless you perform well and “win” your shift by clearing Wave 3, so it’s as good a time as any to brush up on key strategies.

Splatoon 3 is available now for Switch, and you can check out the official site right here. Happy splatting!
