Turn-based strategy game Kaiju Wars coming to Switch
Publisher Klabater and developer Foolish Mortals Games have announced Kaiju Wars, a 2D pixel art turn-based strategy game. Switch will be getting the title sometime in 2022.
Kaiju Wars has players taking on an infestation as the outclassed military. A chief scientist is working on an anti-monster serum, but since it’s not quite ready yet, the monsters will need to be kept at bay.
Players are tasked with constructing buildings to distract the enemy and defending the city with cannon-fodder tanks, jets, and more. Kaiju can also be dealt with by using experimental weapons such as freeze rays and transforming mechas. If they get too close, you’ll have to evacuate the laboratory using transport trucks, boats, or planes.
In terms of the actual kaijus, there are five unique creatures that specialize in different types of destruction. They also mutate, gaining more power and abilities. Since these creatures can’t be killed, they can only be slowed down and forced to fall back.
The action of Kaiju Wars is highlighted by a Campaign Mode, estimated at eight hours in length. Strange natural events are occurring such as frequent volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, and earthquakes. In the campaign, players will find out why this is happening. The mode also has features such as veteran ACE units that accompany you and can be upgraded with spend medals.
