Hamster has announced that the latest entry to the Arcade Archives digital lineup on Switch is the horizontal shoot-em’-up USAAF Mustang, arriving this week. Here are some details, including an overview of the title and its history from International Arcade Museum:

USAAF Mustang is a horizontal shooter arcade game originally released in 1990 by UPL. The game’s description is as follows:

Famous World War II aeroplanes battle in different campaigns across the world destroying the Japanese and German forces. This is a side-scrolling shoot-em-up with the usual assortment of power-ups.

Game Introduction

The difficulty increases as you move from jungle to the sea, to the arctic, to the skies over Hamburg. One stunning visual effect is the seven-layer parallax scrolling. The explosions and splashes into the sea are nicely rendered too.

Game Play

Each time that you play you will face opponents throughout the level and then defeat the main boss at the end, usually a large vehicle like a giant bomber, a submarine, or a giant tank. You can pick up special weapons as well as extra lives and mega-bombs.

Arcade Archives USAAF Mustang is scheduled to launch digitally worldwide tomorrow on September 2, and will cost $7.99 / €6.99 / £6.29 on the Switch eShop.
