Video: Nintendo Switch 2 lets you use your phone as a camera with just a couple of cables
A new test done by YouTube channel Will It Work? reveals that Nintendo Switch 2 owners can use their phone as a camera for the GameChat feature.
GameChat, which is a new feature for the system lets users communicate with friends online. Voice chat is supported, but so is video – as long as you have a compatible USB camera. However, with this new discovery, it turns out that you don’t actually need to go out and buy a separate camera.
The method from Will It Work? is actually very simple. You only need a couple of cables – one is USB-C to HDMI and the other is an HDMI capture cable. The USB-C to HDMI cable goes into your smartphone. Following that, plug the HDMI capture cable in. You can then download an app that puts the camera in full screen mode without buttons – TrueVistage is free and recommended. Both modern iPhones and Android should be supported. You can even test to ensure that everything works in the system settings.

This is definitely a nifty way to try out Game Chat on Nintendo Switch 2. On top of that, the method isn’t overly expensive. The cables Will It Work? recommends comes out to $31 (you can order them here and here), whereas Nintendo’s official solution is $55. Plus, almost everyone has a phone these days and often carries it around.
