The Indigo Disk DLC introduces the 19th type – Stellar, which can only appear on Terastallized Pokemon. You’ll encounter this phenomenon as you play through The Indigo Disk’s storyline, but we’ve put together a summary of its mechanics and how it works in competitive battles.

What is the Stellar type in The Indigo Disk?

Stellar type

As mentioned earlier, this type only appears on Pokemon whose Tera Type is Stellar. Terapagos, a Pokemon you’ll encounter in the main story, can only have this as its Tera Type. As for other Pokemon, you can change their Tera Type to Stellar if you have enough shards. Basically, when a Pokemon Terastallizes, they become their Tera Type and get a 1.5x boost to the strength of moves matching that Tera Type. If a Pokemon Terastallizes into the Stellar-type, it receives that 1.5x boost once per type – so if you use Flamethrower, it’s 1.5x stronger than normal. If you use Flamethrower again, it loses that power boost because you already used it up.

When a Stellar Pokemon uses Tera Blast, it will be super effective against an opponent who has Terastallized into any type. In exchange, the user’s offensive stats will each decrease by one stage. This only happens if the user of Tera Blast is currently Terastallized into the Stellar type. This means that it isn’t going to completely outclass other Tera Types in competitive play – as neat as it is, there are drawbacks to it. Continuing off of the Flamethrower example from earlier, you could make it consistently stronger by just running Tera Fire instead. You’ll need to carefully consider your Pokemon to determine if this Type works well on it or not!
