[Wii Send-Off] The Ten Biggest Disappointments on Wii
1. Red Steel
Compared to the hype that Wii launch title Red Steel had, The Conduit looks like child’s play. Before it actually came out, Ubisoft’s mature-style shooter/sword fighter was everything we wanted from the Wii: We could shoot by pointing, punch by swinging, and most importantly, sword fight with TRUE 1:1 motion controls.
But none of that happened. Not a single thing– not even the graphics lived up to the hype, and it’s really hard to fake how good graphics look. Even so, Ubisoft did it. They succeeded at selling over a million units of what is essentially a piece of shovelware. They succeeded at tricking tons of gamers into thinking that the Wii was something it wasn’t. They even succeeded at damning every promising piece of Wii software to a life of being compared to Red Steel. Even today, with the Wii U launch slowly approaching, “journalistic” outlets are saying things like “Is ZombiU going to ‘Red Steel’ us?” and “Will ZombiU just be another Red Steel?”
You have damned yourself for many years Ubisoft. And we all hope you’ve learned your lesson. We can’t take another hit like that.
That’s it for the ten biggest disappointments on the Wii! Why not take some extra time and check out our seven other lists!?
