Bandai Namco says Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is a big hit on Switch, selling out in Japan

Posted on September 8, 2017 by (@NE_Brian) in News, Switch

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 debuted for Switch in Japan this week. Specifically, the game launched on Thursday. We’ll need to wait until next week to see how it’s performed so far, but based on Bandai Namco’s reports, it’s off to a strong start.

Yesterday, Bandai Namco published a tweet saying that Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is a big hit on Switch. That was followed up by another message earlier today stating that there’s a bit of a shortage for the physical version. More shipments are planned towards the end of this month.

Bandai Namco likely planned a conservative shipment for Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2. So when the Japanese charts are published next week, don’t expect massive sales. We can at least expect a very high sell-through rate.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 will be appearing in North America and Europe later this month. The western launch is set for September 22.

Yeah, it was sold out in every shop I went to but one.. time for Bandai Namco to start realizing where the customers actually are. Same for Capcom.

    • Shonenfan

Huh? Its not out yet in the west?

    • Take-Two is starting to realize it 🙂

    • KnightWonder

There’s a rumor going around that Capcom will be releasing an HD version of Okami on everything…but the Switch.

      • PRIMUS

I would not put it past Capcom. They are the EA of Japan now. Square Enix and Nintendo are all buddy buddy again.

        • Lance Devon

That’s the strangest buddy-buddy relationship I’ve ever seen.

  • TDude73

That’s awesome news. Let’s hope that one day that Bandai Namco and Arc System Works co-develop a Dragon Ball FighterZ port for the Nintendo Switch in the future.

    • Brii-Nanas

Is it just wishful thinking, or do I actually recall them mentioning that if this game is successful enough, they would more seriously consider a port of FighterZ?

      • TDude73

I wouldn’t call it “wishful thinking”. But I do believe that Xenoverse 2 Nintendo Switch Edition will sell well in North America and Europe. Will it sell both physically and digitally over 9,000 copies? I believe so.

      • Stuart

Well,Bandai said that they were focusing on selling Xenoverse 2,that Switch was capable of running Fighters Z and that they could bring if there was demand. And uying Xenoverse 2 is a great way to prove the demand.

    • You took the words right out of my mouth. No excuses now for Dragon Ball FighterZ not to be on the Switch

    • Exy

At this stage, it seems more realistic to expect the iterative upgrade of FighterZ to come out on Switch rather than the first one. It is a fighting game from a major developer, after all. I expect at most a token word of appreciation from the game’s developer, a plaintive mumble about how great it would be if it were on Switch, and then nothing afterward until its Rev1 is announced.

      The system requires more testing.

      • Rodrigo Coelho Costa Junior

what do you mean? the Switch system?
There are tons of games out there, I think it’s been tested enough to see its working both in terms of sales and performance.
There hasn’t been one game launched globally out there that was a disappointment in sales so far. Nothing out of the expected at least, for example the monster hunter vanilla port.. that was expected since it has already been sold greatly for another currently living nintendo platform. it is absolutely the same game and it is been overshadowed by the newest announcement. The -initial- sales were good for a port, just not good for a monster hunter. But it was expected due to circumstances and it will keep selling more… it will sell two more copies today for me and my wife for example.

        • Lance Devon

SF2 was sucessful for Capcom and they still needed testing of the market.

          • TDude73

You should know, Lance, that Bandai Namco are not CAPCOM. Thus, it’s invalid.

          • Lance Devon

And they are also third party, this pretty damn valid.

          • Rodrigo Coelho Costa Junior

I know I know. my point is that, if DBZ is proven to sell on switch, why not give this public the game we actually want?

    • Exy

I’ve already started the clock for how long it takes between this news and the announcement.

      • Rodrigo Coelho Costa Junior

hahaha great that someone is keeping track!

  • ok it’s a Bit Hit 😀

  • Shonenfan

Good news! Even i have the ps4 version, i will gladly buy the switch version too.

  • theFooFighter

Cool now give us fighter Z for the love of Christ

  • awng782

So assuming the game sells similarly well in the west, can the Switch get DBFZ?

  • James Fox

    Attention Saiya Peepo!
    Don’t celebrate just yet
Yes, It’s great XV2 is a hit in japan and all
However, In order to make Bandai Namco listen clearly – We must make XV2 sell like gangbusters ‘ere in the USA
Sure, We’re getting a Tales game and a Taiko no Tatsujin game down the road for the Switch but if you really want FighterZ … Buy This Game when it releases on the 22nd of September

    • Busterblade

Let’s prove Japan that they ain’t the only one who can go:

    • Wait. . . was Taiko no Tatsujin confirmed for Switch somewhere!? Was that during the Switch presentation, or did they mention bringing one to Switch?? You have me very excited but on edge with curiosity. x’D

      • James Fox

Bandai Namco did confirm that Tales and Taiko no Tatsujin is coming to the Switch next year

        • Ohhh. I know Tales was confirmed for Switch, but I didn’t realize TnT. Do you remember where you saw or read that?

  • Felipe M.

A “bit hit” what the heck is that?

Anyway, that’s good news. Hope I’ll enjoy XV2 as much as I did with Tenkaichi 3.

    • He had a typo, corrected on the site and you can’t edit tweets if that’s where you coming from.

  • Stuart

Great news! Even if Fighters Z come to Switch I will also have no problem in buying Xenoverse 2 too, both looks really fun.

  • Reggie

GOOD. Maybe this will change Bandai’s mind about Switch. This makes me feel a little better.

  • Its number 6 on Japan eShop after several of release

The Switch is sold out. Bandai Namco should have expected this goodness. The Switch is a great game. A great game.

  • MusubiKazesaru

    That’s good news.

  • Busterblade

Soon, I will pre-order my copy. I was worried at first that it might’ve been a fairly small base to play with, but my worries are gone now 😀

  • R.Z.

Oh, so maybe I can actually skip it to save my bank account without feeling bad for not supporting third parties on Switch ?
Just joking, I’m gonna play the hell some out of this.

  • Huh. I’m glad, but interesting that it’s doing so well. I wonder what they’re making of numbers between that and OP Red DX. Just give me more OP, and I’ll be happy.

And if a PreCure Musou or anything happens, give that to the Switch too. x’D

    • Busterblade

It’s up to Nintendo Switch owners to prove there’s a market for their games, and so far, we all seem to be doin a good job of that one, so I’m happy for that 🙂

  • CilverKid520_Youtube_Twitch

Yo Japan did their part now it’s time for US and Europe to pull their weight. Dragon Ball Fighter Z Switch must happen!!
