BlazBlue creator says “fighting games can definitely find a home on the Switch”

Posted on July 17, 2017 by (@NE_Brian) in News, Switch

Arc System Works is on board as a Switch developer. The company has already put out a few titles on the eShop, but we also know that some sort of BlazBlue game is planned.

Redbull recently spoke with BlazBlue series creator Toshimichi Mori and asked for an update about regarding the franchise on Nintendo’s console. He sadly wouldn’t divulge anything, but did say that “fighting games can definitely find a home on the Switch.”

Mori noted:

“As far as announcements go, I unfortunately can’t say much today, but what I will say is that with the introduction of fun competitive games like Arms, I do believe fighting games can definitely find a home on the Switch. Stay tuned!”

Thanks to angstygaijin for the tip.

      Kill Me Baby?

Go ahead. I don’t feel like living right now, after seeing a response like this following a whole day of me waxing tragic over the relationship between fighting games and Switch with the news about FighterZ.

        • Velen (Not WoW)

The hell are you on about? In all seriousness.

            I’m confused and scared.

            Don’t be scurred… it’s just a video game.

Normally I would just say something like “[believing intensifies]” and be through with this post, but in the context of the announcements from today and yesterday, especially regarding Dragon Ball FighterZ, this comes across as a final insult. It’s just so demoralizing.

It just feels like something we’ll have to contend with honestly. As people who have bought the Switch.

Dafuq is this animoo supposed to convey

EVO would’ve been a GREAT place for the blazblue game announcement though….

  • I don’t think they announced any specific console for the game so a Seitch version can be on the horizon.

If you look back at the board Nintendo showed of Developers for the SWITCH, it actually shows the BLAZ BLUE logo.

      • True but after the DB fiesta it can be any BlazBlue game and not necessarily the upcoming one (although I think it’ll be the recently announced BB).

Ah, I never liked Melty Blood anyway. I DON’T NEED YOUR STINKING CROSS-OVER!

(Though, seriously, I know they’re trying to recycle sprites with this game, but River City vs Double Dragon vs. Guilty Gear vs. Blazblue vs. Jake Hunter is crossover we really want. That, or Project X Zone fighter an old Swith launch line-up “leak” came up with.)

    • Rafael Bueno

River City and Jake Hunter more demanded than Persona? Haha

      • Zeebor

I mean as a purely Arc Sys crossover. Mostly thanks to the Techno’s buy out, ASW has close to… 70 IPs.

        • Rafael Bueno

but P4 is more fun than River City and Jake Hunter lol

  • Vigilante_blade

Blazblue and Guilty Gear would be nice to have.

    • Guilty Gear will be awesome, I really enjoyed in the past as well KoF and ST

  • Lol, after Arms, I’m sure a couple of fighting game publishers and devs are stroking their chin. It would be smart to bank on while they can.

I was thinking earlier today that I’d like a BlazBlue game on Switch, but I really just want to be able to play through anything with Kagura, lol. I like Ragna too, but his story is supposedly over.

I find it ironic that he says “can” find a home on the Switch. ARMS was sold out for a while, in our small corner of Europe (the Netherlands). Imagine how that fared for bigger countries, with more people and gamers?

It seems to me like that home is already there, just the question of capitalizing on it. (Especially now that the Switch is still light on games)

      • I’m glad to hear that~. Its Japanese sales seem underwhelming, but looking at the chart for fighting games (non-licensed), it’s incredible. I can’t wait to see how it fared in the US.

Yup, I agree with that. I do feel he probably means “can,” in that it will take fighting publishers to also make the effort and they can be an especially finicky lot; but fighting games are seeing a lot of change in the industry. They’re at an unstable place, especially after how strong they were going during the 7th gen.

I hope the Switch will see multi-plat game releases, but I also hope it gets some of the stuff the Wii had. Tatsunoko vs Capcom was a great game, and I’d love for the Switch have a title like that of its own.

I bet the Switch Blazblue will be like nothing from PS4 games 🙁

    • TDude73

That’s where you’re entirely wrong, Raph. BlazBlue is powered by Unreal Engine 4… and the Nintendo Switch CAN support UE4. Take a look at Snake Pass and the trailer for a new Yoshi game for 2018 and a sneak peek at a new Shin Megami Tensei game.

Sorry, Raph… but you’ve lost your bet big time.

      • Rafael Bueno

I wasn’t trying to Troll anyone, Damnit!
i was saying that maybe the new Blazblue won’t be Central Fiction or Cross Tag Battle from what we’ve seen so far :/
