Metroid is the one game Nintendo must go back to its roots on. Other M was a disaster. It had its moments, but the awful controls and pathetic voice-acting made for a pretty uneasy experience, especially considering Metroid’s stellar history.

We need a 2 or 2.5D Metroid. When Shadow Complex came out a few years ago, the first thing I thought was, “Imagine if Nintendo made a 2D Metroid that looked like this.”

It also seems like the 2/2.5D Metroidvania genre has been hurting lately as well. The Batman Blackgate game kind of sucked, the Castlevania Mirrors of Fate game also kind of sucked, and the slew of indie games attempting to tackle the genre have mostly been boring at best.

However, Steam World Dig was amazing! Unfortunately, it was only an eShop game, so the experience definitely felt short. Still, it was an amazing reminder at how awesome the Metroidvania genre is, and how much Nintendo needs to make this 2D Metroid game ASAP. That could be the game that brings Metroid back into the spotlight again, I think.

Or develop two Metroid games at the same time; One an FPS for the Wii U to appease the shooter fans, and the other a 2D Metroidvania game for the 3DS to please the old school fans. It would be a win-win. But sadly, we know that won’t be happening any time soon. *sigh*
