Nicalis announces physical version of Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap for North America

Posted on November 1, 2017 by (@NE_Brian) in News, Switch

Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap came to Switch earlier this year as a digital title. A physical version was announced not too long ago, though only for Asia. Nicalis has since announced a partnership with DotEmu for a retail release of the game in North America.

The physical version of Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap will ship in Q1 2018. It’ll be priced at $39.99.

For more information about the game, continue on below.

Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap is a beautifully drawn and animated remake of the unforgettable Sega Master System game Wonder Boy III. It finds our hero cursed by a dragon, forced to live in the form of a Lizard-Man (and new additional forms) until he can break the curse by defeating all of the other dragons in the land. The game’s developer, Lizardcube, reverse-engineered the original game in order to faithfully replicate the character movements, item drop logic, secret door locations and much more.

The Switch version of Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap are presented in widescreen HD, with enhanced interface functions, a new playable character (Wonder Girl) and the option to toggle between the all-new hand-drawn visuals and the original graphics.

Really hope this comes to Europe (and that the box art pays homage to its Master System origins).

    • Only the grid.

If you really want the game, just export it. People still forget that switch region free.

If I really wanted the game, I’d just buy it on the eShop. I’ve not forgotten that the Switch is region free, but when I spend extra money on a physical copy I want it to be the European version, not an American ESRB version.

        • I think you mean NTSC, but 100% agreed. It’s important to some people to have their region’s version of a game in a physical format when available. Other people who don’t care about that need to just back off.

Nah, I was actually thinking about the big ESRB box on the front of the North American covers. (Japan version also is NTSC.)

Oh how I wish Nicalis had a decent publishing deal in Europe too…

Awesome. I was hoping this would eventually come to NA in physical format. I’ll be holding out for this then.

Nicalis?! Weird, Arc-Sys snapped up the Asian markets rights, so I thought Aksys if anyone. Oh well, at least I have a chance to get some of those goodies that Limited Run games ROBBED ME OF!

    • Reggie

Wouldn’t be Limited Run Games if it weren’t limited run. =P

    Okay then.

  • Man I should really stop buying games when they first come out, I guess.

    No thanks then.
