Nintendo still working on eShop issues

Not much has changed with the eShop’s status since Nintendo shared an update about a day ago. Both digital stores are still down with outages, and the situation continues to be worked on.

Nintendo’s latest message reads:

    I got a message saying it was down for maintenance a few minutes ago when I tried to get in the eshop. This happen to anyone else?

      Getting the same, (007-5503)-constantly now. Looks like this thing’s gonna get fixed! Heard from someone on Twitter that the Wii U shop is up now, can’t say for sure though, I don’t have a Wii U to check.

        I have a Wii U, and I can confirm that the eShop is back up. On my end, at least; don’t know about everyone else.

        Not sure about 3DS, though.

          Same here, things are looking up. However, I cannot seem to redeem my Deluxe Digital Promotion Points, but I guess that will be up to by tomorrow.

          On a more negative note, I see parents have flocked Nintendo’s support forums talking about ruined christmas mornings and whiney kids and worst of all returning their systems. I sincerely hope Nintendo gets their servers up real soon or else it could turn out to be very messy for them (especially if the media gets their hands on this story). They really should not have made bundles with digital codes as opposed to physical disks for christmas and they should have included the required system updates for the games on the disk.

            I agree. Despite thousands of users flocking to Amazon to redeem gift card codes that server NEVER goes down. I’m not sure how Nintendo was caught so unaware but this has to be a massive disappointment to any family who picked up a new system for Christmas. It’s really a terrible first impression and I do feel badly for those families affected. When I was a kid, there was no internet, so this was never an issue. Nowadays the console simply cannot function online without updates, so folks with digital codes are sunk.

            You make it sound as IF this is something only Nintendo is dealing with.

            FYI Steam went down after Valve gave L4D2 this X-mas. I guess they were caught unaware as well, eh?

            Not only that but PSN has been down for about a full day too.

            I understand what you are saying and I agree. However, it is more difficult to explain this to angry parents (with little technical knowledge) who just purchased the system and are probably dealing with angry kids.

            Plus, I do not really expect much out of PS or Xbox to be honest with you. I have always viewed Nintendo as a cut above the rest of them. Nintendo always prided themselves on being able to deliver experiences to their customers out-of-the-box with little setup or fiddling; and so seeing so many people angry because they have to wait for the eShop to come-up to get their bundled game and do mandatory updates is very disheartening.

            I especially find it insulting to the great software people at Nintendo who spent all year rallying to get high-quality games ready for the holiday to give the system the momentum it needed and the hardware people who built and actively supported this great system only to have some idiots in management deciding to bundle games as download codes as opposed to physical copies. Nintendo should have done what they did with Wii, and that is to just bundle a physical copy with all required updates on disk.

            Times are a changin’ & at present most companies believe in the “cloud” (ask Microsoft).

            Despite the hiccups and false starts, the goal in this industry is to get rid of physical copies and to go digital 100%. It already started. Sadly, there is no going back to the “Wii’s good old days”.

            I guess you are right, with the digital age comes convenience and agony. Though I still think Nintendo can beat others by bundling physical software 😛

            Wait, doesn’t the New Super Mario Bros U/New Super Luigi U bundle come with a physical copy?

            Yes, and if you check the tech support forums no one is complaining about NSMBU bundles. People are complaining about their 3DS XLs with the A Link Between Worlds and Wii Us with Wind Waker HD because those came as digital download codes.

    Got on the eShop with no problems tonight. Even played some Sport Club Golf, no issues. Hate to hear others are experiencing trouble.

    After 12 hours or so my Wii U eShop actually listed Super Punch-Out as a purchase-able title. Still can’t access the 3DS one, though. At all. This must be maddening for folks new to the systems.
