Nintendo Switch Online update out now (version 1.1.0) – can voice chat while using other apps

Posted on September 12, 2017 by (@NE_Brian) in Mobile, News, Switch

Update: Official patch notes added below.

Original: A new update has gone live for the Nintendo Switch Online app. Version 1.1.0 is live on both iOS and Android.

The big improvement with today’s update is that voice chat now works when opening other applications and when sleep mode is enabled. Additionally, the app has improved compatibility with Bluetooth devices on Android. Nintendo took care of some other issues as well.

Nintendo notes that on devices running Android 6.0 or later, voice chat may be interrupted when the device enters sleep mode if power-saving is enabled. This can be disabled in the settings.

  • Nooowww that’s more like it Nintendo, now how about putting the app on the actual system but nonetheless you guys are taking steps in the right direction

    • zelgadis greywords

because is not so good as people tend to think it is. In the good part is the easyness to use it, and thats all, and for the bad part is resources wasted in something thay you could or could not use, and resources that cant be used in the games and if the Voice Chat is in the console it share the internet bandwith with the actual game and that can be prety bad. Look at ps4, they have that “high amount” of 8 gigs of ram, but for games they only have 3.5-4 ( the same as the switch). I dont know if that is because bad programing or a lot of process but is an extremelly high amount of ram, do something like that in the switch and lest look what happens.

      • Eagle367

But voice chat was there in the original xbox and that had a fraction of the switch’s anything

  • Fandangle

How about you just make a party chat on console like sane people and stop being so globstuffed obtuse?

Can’t wait until we can organize our games on the home menu; I have 20 ACA NeoGeo games, 3 eShop games, and 2 Switch games (BoTW and MK8D) and it sucks that I can’t organize games on the home menu. Also, it even get worse once VC games are added. I already have lots of NES, SNES, N64, GB, GBC, GBA, DS, GG, and TG-16 games on my 3DS and Wii U.

    • ChuckyGuy98

Good! Maybe for once you will appreciate for what you have instead of whining like a little girl about what you don’t have.

      • CaptainPleb

What? How is he whining like a little girl?

        • Addy

          No. Don’t. Walk away now.

          • CaptainPleb

            Uh oh.

          • Addy

            That’s right. Just stay away.

      • Do you have a problem with little girls

        Did they take your toys

        Did they hurt you

Tell us what the mean little girls did to big chuckyguy

        • Addy

He got triggered by someone being a spoiled brat. Also he continues to berate said brat wherever he goes.

          • Ranisgley Pinto

Do you think is too late to he find a cure?

        • ChuckyGuy98

I guess you didn’t understand what I mean which is quite said seeing it was a simple sentence.

I don’t have problems with little girls or little kids in general. Just saying that he constantly whines like one when he doesn’t get exactly what he wants and at the same time whines when people “aren’t being grateful for what they have” he is quite the whiner.

          • The little girls hurt your feelings and now they’re the whiny ones?

I suppose after all that ranting Nintendo would eventually change it.

Algum brasileiro aqui? hahaha 20 previsões para o Nintendo Direct de amanhã!!

    • Ranisgley Pinto

Rabbit guy, you don’t know neither i

  • Bruno_Ostara

Great! They heard at least a little! And being so close to the direct maybe we have some update on that there as well. Now if they at least gave us the option to chat whenever we wont and send freaking messages to our friend list i would be satisfied. It would still be inferior to just having all that on the system. But im pretty tired of befriending people who played with me and having no idea who they are

    • Ranisgley Pinto

      • Bruno_Ostara

Yep, you found a typo. Here is a golden star

        • Ranisgley Pinto

I don’t want your star, where’s my free burrito?

  • Snackster1001

Okay, that’s one out of many problems solved Nintendo. Now you just need to:
Put the app on the console itself!
Let people make parties that aren’t limited to just a few games!
And most importantly, make it so people can use their damn headsets with the switch

  • Benjamin Silva

The app is not bad (damn slow), I actually loved how they interact with the game, and show your and games info, but to be a must for voice chat is just dumb, and why I still can’t voice chat with random people? Communication in Splatoon is fundamental and we just don’t have any basically.

    • ronin4life

      Communication really isn’t that fundamental. I have played loads of games like Splatoon online and rarely hear or see any kind of chat that isn’t either;
Game vets giving advice/team leader giving commands.

That last one is important, as it is the only decent usage of chat features… except more than half the time these people are actively ignored or insulted for doing so. And in many of these games strategy and coordination are essential, not just “fundamental ”

In titles like Splatoon or Battlefront, the game design goes to great lengths to keep you informed and knowing what holes need plugged without someone telling you what to do and/or griefing.

  • tHe_MaN_wItH_nO_hAnD

It’s like they made the app so bad that when the finally make it okay, people will be amazed at how much better it has gotten …
