Ultra Sun and Pokemon Ultra Moon are the last Pokemon RPGs for 3DS

Game Freak is moving on from the 3DS when it comes to Pokemon. In an interview with IGN, Game Freak director Shigeru Ohmori said that Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are the “culmination of our work with the 3DS system.”

Ohmori explained to the site:

“When we were making Pokemon X and Y, we really were trying to push the 3DS system to its absolute limits – which is what we thought we’d done. But when Sun and Moon came around, we completely redesigned the system, and actually ended up pushing the 3DS even further to what we thought was the most we could draw out of it.”

“With Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, we’ve tried to eke that out more and really, really push the system to its absolute limits, and we’re now feeling that perhaps this is the maximum of what we can get out. So we’re really treating Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon as the culmination of our work with the 3DS system.”

Pokemon Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon director Kazumasa Iwao that 80 people worked on these latest games. The team is roughly half the size of Sun and Moon’s total staff, and was a “comparatively young team”.

Too bad you guys never got a full 3D (Stereoscopic) Pokémon game running on 3DS, I think it might have been possible on new Nintendo 3DS cause of Xenoblade C….

    • It’s one of the main reason why I haven’t convinced myself to purchase Ultra Moon (I haven’t even played Moon because same reason). I would trade framerate for stereoscopy 3D on a game like Pokemon if I could

Same here ;____; This was our last chance ;______; maybe in another life time T______T

If it means that focusing on upgrading your talents for the Nintendo Switch, I’m ready!

  • MagcargoMan

Doesn’t really surprise me. Either a new handheld is in development or the Switch is gonna fill in for that during the current console generation. I doubt they’d make a New 3DS-only one.

    • awng782

The Switch is Nintendo’s new handheld. That’s why a new Pokemon game is be developed on it.

      • Jacob Groves

Nintendo Switch is hybrid console so don’t call handheld because Switch is not that. Nintendo already slated that Nintendo Switch is main for home console while portable on go is optional. 🙂

        • awng782

It is also a home console.

        • Devlind

And they said that the Nintendo DS wasn’t gonna replace the Gameboy too and here we are. Never believe everything that Ninty says.

        • Riahi

they are doubling the production since its success, they see the switch as a handheld now that’s why pokemon is being developed, they said that themselves…

  • StrawhatEevee

Were they able to confirm that water is wet in the interview as well?

  • Tlink7

Duh? GF said the next title would be on the Switch lol

  • RoadyMike

Well no sh*t Sherlock. The 3DS has lived its life to the fullest and now its end is coming really soon. It’s only natural this will be the last 3ds pokemon game

  • Aline Piroutek

So Pokémon Ranger on 3DS is dead.

    • Adriel Minier

This is possibly the last main title for the 3DS, not the last pokemon title period. I’m sure the 3DS is still going to get some spin-off titles, but in terms of main titles ,this is probably where it ends.

    • Creatures inc developed the Ragers games.

    • Vaughn Hess Jr

why you want it on the 3ds…get it on the SWITCH!

      • Aline Piroutek

Switch games are usually $60 and I still don’t have the plataform.

    • MagcargoMan

I mean, wasn’t it obvious at this point that there was gonna be no Ranger game on the system?

  • It means that Game Freak has seen how popular and dominant the Switch has been, especially in Japan so they’re shifting their focus to that system. I can’t wait to see how a mainline Pokémon title is gonna look in HD

  • Carlos

I guess is the beginning of the end of the 3DS.

  • Sir Dippingsauce

    This was obvious.

  • Sir Dippingsauce

    This was obvious.

  • Central City Flash Founder

Makes sense to me. I tried to tell people that Diamond & Pearl remakes were never going to be on the 3DS, there were even some fools who were under the delusion that Nintendo would release them both on the Switch and the 3DS. Lunatics!

  • 03grunt

Make Wailord to scale then we’ll talk

  • ManBat Creepers

    • Supporter

They could be on the Switch instead. *shrugs*

    • MagcargoMan

No we don’t need them. I can play my Pearl cartridge on my 3DS right now.

      • ManBat Creepers

Sure you can play the original versions but how would feel about playing the newer versions with a lot more and most likely better changes

        • MagcargoMan

You mean playing the same game with weak 3D graphics and new changes I won’t care about and some stupid new gimmick that doesn’t suit the series like the ones Gen 6 and 7 added?

          • ManBat Creepers

Let’s look at what you said ‘changes I won’t care about’ sure YOU may not care about the changes made to the game but there are a lot of people who do care about the changes and would like to see new changes to the game. Altogether people do want to see the remakes and that’s final so stop trying to argue about something I never asked you to argue about

          • MagcargoMan

Any Pokemon remakes after the first two gens are pointless and only exist to milk money out of the fans who encourage this sordid behaviour from Game Freak.

          • ManBat Creepers

So you say any remake other than the gen 1 and 2 remakes are just to milk money out of people yet if I’m correct the remakes of the first 2 gens are the exact same game just with colour and with better graphics yet all the other remakes produce better graphics but they also add extra stuff to the game from the original so really you got it backwards

          • MagcargoMan

First two generations were literally impossible to connect to later gens through any means and were severely outdated (Gen 1 was basically a beta) so the remakes were necessary. There is no need to remake Diamond and Pearl.

          • ManBat Creepers

Actually there is as this is fact that gen 4 is one of the most liked gens since the games were as.good of a hit as a lot of the other games plus that the sinnoh series was a big hit and tons of people liked that series the most

          • MagcargoMan

Yeah, I liked Gen 4. That’s why I go play it now instead of buying an unnecessary remake that while add stupid redesigns to characters and make some stupid new gameplay gimick.

          • ManBat Creepers

Alright man how about we just stop with this argument or else this will go on forever. So just read this and don’t reply to this and we will just leave eachother alone
