7 Star Dondozo guide for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
The 7 Star Dondozo Tera Raid Battle for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is live now, and we have a guide for it ready to go. For this particular event, Dondozo is running Tera Water, which will further increase the strength of its Water-type moves. The event lasts until August 8, so you’ve got plenty of time to prepare yourself with one of the counters we’ve listed here.
7 Star Dondozo guide
As we mentioned earlier, this is a Tera Water 7 Star Dondozo – so it’s only weak to Grass and Electric-type moves. It uses Wave Crash, Order Up, Avalanche, and Earthquake as its normal attacks. A few seconds after the Tera Raid Battle starts, Dondozo also uses Yawn. Halfway through, it uses Curse. Luckily, we’ve put together a strategy that accounts for both of these.
This strategy does require two players, and one of them would ideally own Pokemon Violet. It involves using Abomasnow and Iron Bundle in tandem with each other to deal enough damage to take down 7 Star Dondozo. It has the Unaware Ability, which means any boosting moves you use don’t register when you try to damage it. This means you have to rely on raw damage output alone. For Abomasnow, we recommend a Light Clay plus the moves Aurora Veil, Grass Knot or Giga Drain, Chilling Water, and Snowscape to reset snow when it eventually fades. We’d also recommend a Bold nature with max EVs in HP and Defense.
For Iron Bundle, we recommend a Shell Bell item so it can restore its health over time. That way, you won’t have to worry much about heal cheers. For moves, go with a PP-Maxed Freeze-Dry and Electric Terrain. The other two moves really don’t matter much, but you can include Taunt and Snowscape if you want. On the first turn, Abomasnow sets up Aurora Veil and Iron Bundle sets up Electric Terrain. Then, Abomasnow uses a mix of Chilling Water to reduce Dondozo’s Attack (this does work even though it has Unaware) and Iron Bundle spams Freeze-Dry for the rest of the match, eventually Terastallizing into Tera Ice to increase the damage. Abomasnow does not need to Tera; if it goes Tera Grass, it becomes weak to Avalanche; if it goes Tera Ice, it no longer resists the Wave Crash move that 7 Star Dondozo uses.
Eventually, Aurora Veil, Snowscape, and Electric Terrain will all fade. Put them back as soon as they do and you should have just enough time to take down 7 Star Dondozo. There are a few other options here; Electric Seed as an item for Iron Bundle will increase its Defense when Electric Terrain is up, but you do miss out on very important healing. You could also theoretically go two Iron Bundles, but you will lose out on the extra Defense from Aurora Veil and increased damage from Abomasnow’s Grass Knot.
