Pokemon GO update datamined, big quest functionality uncovered
Earlier today, Niantic began distributing a new update for Pokemon GO. Like we usually see, dedicated fans have started plugging away to see if it holds anything interesting under the surface. And as it turns out, some very interesting information is hidden away inside.
The Silph Road shared its findings earlier today. What really seems notable here is some new quest functionality included in the code.
In the old versions of Pokemon GO, the daily spin / daily catch bonus was known as a “Quest” in the APK. But in this latest update, the code has been very much reworked with quite a bit that’s been added.
Two types of Quests have been found in Pokemon GO’s patch: “STORY_QUEST” and “CHALLENGE_QUEST”. These seem to be dependent on the mechanics required to complete the objective.
If that wasn’t enough, quests have been expanded from two objectives to ten. They were previously just “QUEST_FIRST_CATCH_OF_THE_DAY” and “QUEST_FIRST_POKESTOP_OF_THE_DAY”. Now, however, Pokemon GO has objectives for:
QUEST_CATCH_POKEMON
QUEST_SPIN_POKESTOP
QUEST_HATCH_EGG
QUEST_WALK_BUDDY
QUEST_FEED_POKEMON
QUEST_WIN_GYM_BATTLE
QUEST_COMPLETE_RAID_BATTLE
QUEST_LEVELUP_BADGE
There’s also a new “QUEST_MULTI_PART”. This would likely involve combined objectives.
Moving on, these attributes of quests have been discovered:
Creation Timestamp
Completion Timestamp
Rewards
Status (Active / Completed)
Multipart
Context
Seed
Goal
There are two final quest-related finds to discuss. The first one is about new references to Quest characters. The first one? Professor Willow. “Character Expressions” are a part of this with “UNSET” and “HAPPY” found as of now. The Silph Road speculates that you may need to complete the quest to make the NPC happy.
Lastly, some quests may be gated behind pre-conditions. The Silph Road makes note of the following:
QUEST_PRECONDITION_UNSET
QUEST_PRECONDITION_QUEST
QUEST_PRECONDITION_LEVEL
QUEST_PRECONDITION_MEDAL
There are some interesting discoveries here for sure. It sounds like Niantic has some pretty big plans in store regarding quests in Pokemon GO.
