Rumor: Cloud saves on all existing Switch games will be enabled by default
Yesterday, a description on the back of the box of an upcoming Switch game in Japan made some people doubt whether or not the cloud saving feature of the upcoming Nintendo Switch Online service would work with all Switch games. Today, we can possibly shed a little light on that issue, though it’s nothing official yet.
The folks over at Nintendo Life reached out to a source of theirs, presumably someone working at a developer or publisher, and asked them about the cloud saving feature. Here’s what the source had to say:
“All existing games will default to “enabled”. I specifically asked Nintendo about that and had that response. If a dev/pub wants an existing game to not support it, they have to ask.
When submitting a game, you are encouraged to enable cloud save. You have to have a good reason to not support it.
Reasons to not support it are generally based around preventing a user abusing it to cheat in your game. I can’t think of anything beyond Animal Crossing being too concerned about players rewinding their saves, but some games that give a random weapon drop, for example, might want to also prevent rewinding.”
So there you have it. According to this source, all existing Switch games will apparently support cloud saves by default and won’t need to be specifically patched to support it. As always, take this with a grain of salt as this is an unofficial source, although Nintendo Life recently proved the veracity of one of their sources since they correctly predicted the time of the latest (but since delayed) Nintendo Direct. Speaking of, hopefully we should get official confirmation of this issue in the Direct. We will keep you updated once Nintendo announces a new air date for it.
