Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair “isn’t a direct sequel”, Playtonic has “lots planned” for the series
Playtonic closed out the week by announcing Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair. This time around, the team has created a 2D platforming adventure hybrid.
Following the announcement, Playtonic posted an FAQ on its website covering a bit more of the game. First, the studio says it “isn’t a direct sequel.” And while Playtonic has “lots planned for the future of the Yooka-Laylee universe,” the company wants to make the different games “with a fresh take”.

What platforms can I buy Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair on?
We really want as many people as possible to be able to play, so we’ll be launching Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC
Will the game have a physical Switch edition?
Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair will be launching digitally across Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC and we’ll also be launching a boxed version on consoles. More details to follow!
Will the physical Switch edition be available at retailers?
Yes, please keep posted and check with your local retailers for availability towards launch.
Will it be released on all platforms at the same time?
It will indeed! We’re excited to bring Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair to consoles and PC simultaneously at launch.
Is this a sequel to Yooka-Laylee?
No, Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair isn’t a direct sequel. We’ve got lots planned for the future of the Yooka-Laylee universe, but we want to approach each with a fresh take, as each game is an opportunity for us to add new mechanics and gameplay that isn’t necessarily limited to what’s happened before.
When will the game be released?

Who is doing the soundtrack?
We’re thrilled to have both David and Grant back on board for Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair. They’ve both contributed to the game and have also been helping to train up our own in-house composers Dan Murdoch and Matt Griffin too. This soundtrack is going to be special!
