Nintendo 79th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders Q&A – eSports, Switch sales momentum, more
Nintendo is hosting its 79th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders today. There aren’t any big announcements being made here, but it is a chance for the company to address some questions from investors.
Japanese Twitter user NStyles is at the meeting, and has started tweeting out a summary of the Q&A. Though it isn’t complete just yet, here are the topics discussed so far:
Regarding 3rd-party AAA title investment.
We’re creating a development environment that makes it easy for them to invest.
About involvement with e-sports: there has been harassment around the appearance of contestants of the Splatoon 2 tournament on Nico-Nico Video.
We think that e-sports are important. We want to have an appealing tournament business that also addresses your point.
How will the sales of the Switch be from this point onward? Will there be a rapid drop-off like with the Wii?
In order to keep the Switch business healthy, we will continue to offer appealing software and services. We had a good response at E3.
Whether or not events will be held at the Nintendo Tokyo store, and why amiibo are being displayed at the General Meeting of Shareholders
The new store will sell software, hardware, and goods in addition to making the most of the space for events. A Pokemon Center will be in the same place, so they may provide synergy for each other.
amiibo are one example of Nintendo making use of its IP. There are 168 displayed.
We’ll be updating this post later on with the full Q&A summary once it’s available.
