Nintendo Live 2024 Tokyo cancelled due to threats against employees and participants
Nintendo Live 2024 Tokyo will no longer be happening due to “persistent threats” made against employees as well as participants.
Nintendo Live was once again set to take place in Japan in January. The event would have offered the same sort of standard activities we’ve seen over the past few years, including tournaments and concerts. Unfortunately, the plug has been pulled entirely.
In a press release, Nintendo states that threats targeting employees have been made ahead of the Splatoon Koshien 2023 finals, which were planned for December 16 and December 17. Those threats have now extended to other staff and attendees. Nintendo has made the decision to postpone the Splatoon 3 Koshien 2023 National Championships, Splatoon 3 World Championship 2024, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Online Challenge Finals, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe World Championships 2024.
Nintendo Live 2024 Tokyo has also been entirely cancelled. The decision was made to ensure safety for everyone at the event.
More information regarding all of the postponed events will be provided on social media and on Nintendo’s website.
After its run in Japan, Nintendo Live took place for the first time in the United States. Fans were able to attend the event in Seattle this past September, which tied in with PAX.
