Nintendo and Yuzu reach settlement, Yuzu to pay $2.4 million
Following Nintendo’s lawsuit against Yuzu, the two sides have come to a quick agreement. Yuzu will now be paying $2.4 million in damages as part of the agreement, which both parties agreed upon.
It was reported that week that Nintendo was suing the creators of the Switch emulator due to DMCA and copyright violations. Allegedly, Yuzu makers accessed Switch games from a hacked console and made at least one copy of each. According to Nintendo, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was downloaded over one million times before the official launch.
The “Final Judgment” and “Permanent Injunction” documents are still a couple of things we’re waiting on. Once published, we’ll be made aware of terms that Yuzu must abide by as part of its settlement with Nintendo.
You can read the full settlement document filed today here.
Update: We have a quick update here as it’s now known that Yuzu can no longer be distributed in built and source code form. Additionally, development is required to end. Yuzu will be shutting down its website and services as well.
