Maniac Mansion-inspired Cronela’s Mansion coming to Switch, retro Nintendo systems
Today, Spanish developer Straynus announced Cronela’s Mansion. The Switch title is targeting its launch for 2025. NES, SNES, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and GBA versions are also planned.
Cronela’s Mansion is an open-world point-and-click adventure game that has players controlling Tommy as he explores the sprawling estate, solves clever puzzles, and interacts with a colorful cast of characters through a branching dialogue system as he works to uncover the enigmatic mansion’s many mysteries. The project has been in the works for over four years and is said to be a spiritual successor to Maniac Mansion.
A Kickstarter campaign for Cronela’s Mansion will take place this summer. Fans will be able to secure a variety of rewards, including a nostalgic big box version of the PC/MS-DOS game on DVD and floppy disk (limited to 500 copies worldwide).
Straynus said of today’s news: “For the past four years, I have been working at Cronela’s Mansion. Creating a point-and-click game for retro systems has been a challenging experience, both physically and mentally, as all versions are programmed and drawn from scratch. The NES version, in particular, has been very difficult to create. Now, I am looking for funding on Kickstarter to be able to produce all the physical material for the games. If you like my work and love retro graphic adventures, it would be amazing to have your support.”
