Final Fantasy XIV director open to Switch 2 release
Could Final Fantasy XIV end up on Switch 2? Naoki Yoshida isn’t ruling out the possibility, at least.
Yoshida was posed that question during an interview with Easy Allies. In his response, he mentioned wanting the game to be played on as many devices as possible. On top of that, Square Enix “would love to have our title available on the Nintendo platform”.
Here’s the full response from Yoshida:
“My dream, or goal, for more than ten years at this points is for players to be able to play Final Fantasy XIV regardless of device, and be able to access the servers to go in and access the same world. … we’ve been talking for years to bring the game on the Xbox platform, and so of course we would love to have our title available on the Nintendo platform, and we do want to continue our efforts. But it did take a lot of time – with Xbox, we literally have talked for years, and it is now finally coming to fruition. We will try our best and continue to work hard at it and continue our efforts. Eventually, it would be cool – something that we would love to sort of explore and make a reality one day.”
At this point in the Switch’s lifecycle it’s very unlikely we’ll see Final Fantasy XIV there – hence the Switch 2 question. However, many years ago, it seemed like a strong possibility. Yoshida first indicated that it could happen way back when the system was codenamed NX. He would comment again on a few different occasions, including most recently in 2019 when talks were apparently still ongoing with Nintendo.
Would you be up for a Switch 2 version of the MMORPG? Let us know in the comments.
