How long it takes to beat Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

Now that The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom has launched, some fans might be curious as to how long it takes to beat the game. 

Echoes of Wisdom is available now on Switch, and it’s the first truly new top-down entry in the series since A Link Between Worlds over ten years ago. Whereas new 3D Zelda titles are notorious for taking well over 150 hours to fully complete, Echoes of Wisdom is more of a bite-sized adventure in comparison. Still, there’s plenty of content on offer, especially if you’re going for 100 percent completion.

How long does it take to beat Echoes of Wisdom?

A casual run of the game skipping some optional side content will probably take you anywhere between 15 and 20 hours to beat Echoes of Wisdom depending on how much of said side content you wind up completing. If you plan to see and complete everything the game has to offer, you’re in for roughly 10 to 15 more hours. This makes a grand total of between 35 and 40 hours to 100 percent complete Echoes of Wisdom, depending on how quickly you play the game. That’s much shorter than Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom for sure, but sometimes a smaller-scale Zelda game with fewer objectives is easier to pick up and play. Not to mention, 40 hours of content for full completion isn’t a small time investment either.

In previous Zelda titles, like Link’s Awakening and Skyward Sword on Switch, you could clear the game to unlock Hero Mode, a more difficult version of the quest where enemies deal more damage and hearts don’t drop. That’s not the case with Echoes of Wisdom, however – if you want to do a challenge run, you can do so right from the beginning in the settings. No unlocking needed – you don’t need to finish Echoes of Wisdom to gain the ability to swap to hard mode.
