Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom glitch found, lets you play as Link
Glitches are always big within the Zelda community, and one of the more recent ones lets you play as Link in Echoes of Wisdom.
It’s true that when you first start up the game, you’ll get brief control of the character – as we’ve seen in past trailers. However, after that initial section, it’s all about Zelda. With this glitch, however, you can do a bit more as Link.
YouTuber alyo shared the method in a recent video. Here are the steps needed to play as Link beyond the opening in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom:
- Start a new game
- Make sure to save once you have control of Link (at Suthorn Ruins), which is needed for later on
- Get past the first dungeon
- Visit Kakariko Village once you have the Sign echo
- Go past the east gate by the forest area and jump on the trees, close to the point where you’ll be voided out
- Keep in mind the location of a nearby enemy which is crucial for the glitch
- This is tricky, but you’ll need put a Sign down, hit it, and read it while trying to open the menu at the same time
- If successful, after opening the menu, you’ll be able to move around and have an enemy kill you
- After the “Game Over” text is shown on screen, load the initial save file you made at Suthorn Ruins, and while the screen goes dark hit the up and A buttons

Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is mostly about the Tri Rod and echoes, but when you play as Link, you have access to his traditional moveset. However, since he can’t use anything granted by the Tri Rod, that means no echoes – and you won’t be able to finish the game this way. It also remains to be seen if Nintendo will eventually issue an update to remove the glitch.
