A Mountainous Mystery Zelda Echoes of Wisdom

A Mountainous Mystery is one of several side quests in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom that leads to one of the game’s many accessories. In this case, your reward for this side quest is the Goron Bracelet, an item that increases your walking speed while carrying objects over your head. Here’s everything you need to know about A Mountainous Mystery and how to earn its ultimate reward.

As with most quests in the Eldin region, you can only take on A Mountainous Mystery after you’ve cleared the nearby rift and dungeon as part of the main story. You’ll also need to have created the Tocktorok Automaton, which we cover in our Automatons guide. Once that criteria has been met, return to Goron City. You’ll walk in on a conversation about how Darston, the chief of the Gorons, went to the mountain a while ago and hasn’t returned. You’ll need to follow him to the Summit Cave on the north end of Eldin Volcano – it’s directly east of the northernmost waypoint on Eldin Volcano. Alternatively, you can warp to the Lizalfos Burrow waypoint and then head north to find this cave.

Inside this area, talk to Darston and continue forward. You can use Bind to move the rock over top of the lava spout. From there, climb the wall and summon a lava rock yourself to block off the pillar of lava and continue east. You can then use another lava rock to jump up to the east end of this room and head through the door on the north side. Make your way through the next room, avoiding the Fire Keese that try to bump you into the lava. Use more lava rocks to jump up and head down the ladder.

The rising lava room here is fairly straightforward, but you’ll need to use a Strandtula at the very end of the room to make it through the narrow gap. Remember, you can’t summon a Strandtula on the tile directly below the ceiling – it needs to have one full tile in order to create its web and let you climb on it, so be careful. Head up the latter, and it’ll be time for you to take on a relatively difficult boss battle.

How to get the Goron Bracelet

How to get the Goron Bracelet

This is actually an upgraded version of the very first dungeon boss you fought, and it plays out in a similar way: while it’s recovering from its slam attack, grab its core with Bind and pull it out. You can then transform into Swordfighter mode (or just use strong Echoes if your meter is empty) to deal damage to it. If you have the Lynel Echo from the Eternal Forest, it works great here. Eventually, you may need to use watery or icy Echoes to put out its flames – that way you can get close when it’s not attacking and pull out its core again, eventually defeating it. Once the boss goes down, it’ll drop a Piece of Heart. Take the portal outside, leave the cave, and catch up with Darston. He’ll give you a Goron Bracelet for your hard work! With that, you’ve completed the A Mountainous Mystery side quest.
