Monster Mania 5 side quest guide for Mario & Luigi: Brothership

Posted on December 17, 2024 by in News

Today, we’re looking at Monster Mania 5, which is one of the toughest (and most repetitive) optional side quests in Mario & Luigi: Brothership. For this one, you’ll take on a big group of Helmet Zok Troopers, which can each take one hit before their helmet falls off. The catch is that you have to defeat them all at once, which can get annoying. Here’s a list of the best strategies we used to clear the quest as quickly as possible.

As mentioned earlier, Monster Mania 5 pits you against Helmet Zok Troopers, but with the caveat that you must defeat every single one of them on the same turn. If you defeat some but not others, more enemies will respawn to take their place. This means you need to lower all their health at once and then defeat them all on the same turn. You can do this most easily with Luigi’s Zapperator Bros. Move, which likely won’t KO them in one hit, but will remove their helmets temporarily and then deal damage. Things get complicated when the Helmet Zok Troopers begin attacking you, though. If the enemy has a helmet on their head, you can jump on them to remove it. The troopers often attack you all at once, which means there is a chance you will wind up countering their attacks and KOing a couple of them too early. To remedy this, you can use the Easy-Peasy Counters Battle Plug to make Mario and Luigi hover in the air for a moment. This lets you avoid damage while also avoiding jumping on unhelmeted troopers and dealing damage to them.

When the Easy-Peasy Counters plug runs out, you’ll need to let yourself take damage when the Helmet Zok Troopers attack you. That way you don’t weaken a small number of them, preventing you from taking them out all at once. For this, you can equip the Deluxe Auto and Auto 1-UP Battle Plugs so that Mario or Luigi will revive the other brother automatically after being attacked. When all of the Helmet Zok Troopers look to have low HP, equip the Bros. Boost Battle Plug to increase the Zapperator’s power. If you have Mario’s final Bros. Move, that one can work too – though it deals more damage to its main target.

Overall, this is an annoying side quest that requires good timing and damage management. We’d recommend rotating the strategies above to try and make this as painless as possible, but it may still take a little while.
