Card-en-Ciel update Challenge Battles

Card-en-Ciel, the deckbuilding roguelite JRPG from Inti Creates, is receiving its next major content update with version 1.2.0 today.

This is the second major content update for the game. It includes Challenge Battles, the Parallel Card system, and new quality-of-life features such as selectable Wild Card presets and accessibility options to reduce dexterity gameplay.

Thanks to Inti Creates, we have the following details about the update:

Card-en-Ciel’s new Challenge Battle mode

Version 1.2.0 of Card-en-Ciel brings with it a brand new gameplay mode: Challenge Battles. In each of these battles, you’ll have to complete the challenge using only the cards and Muses provided to you at the start. Your deck will always be in the same order, so there is no randomness here!

These puzzles will test your knowledge and skills to the limit. But don’t worry, you’ll be able to retry the challenge as often as you need. If you get stuck, you can ask Ancie for helpful hints, no strings attached. Each Challenge Battle you clear will unlock one “Parallel Card” for use.

New system: Parallel Cards

A Parallel Card is a new version of an existing card that you can enable before you venture into dungeons. These Parallel Cards will replace the original when you receive them in a dungeon or battle rewards, making for new experiences and strategies.

You can always return a Parallel Card to normal from the base menu, so enable or disable them as you see fit. Find your favorites to customize the game to your playstyle, or pick and choose the ones you need to help get a new high score!

Quality of Life improvements

New quality of life features have been added in version 1.2.0, including some frequently requested options. Some highlights:

  • You can now save and load Wild Card presets.
  • Accessibility options have been added, including auto-success on Action mini-games.
  • Unobtained cards will now appear with a special mark. (This mark will appear after clearing the main story.)
