Balatro publisher reveals how you pronounce the game’s name

Naman Budhwar, head of video marketing at Balatro publisher PlayStack, has revealed how you actually pronounce the name of the game.

Balatro has been a hit on Nintendo Switch and elsewhere, but one of the biggest questions has surrounded the proper pronunciation. Now we have an answer, courtesy of Game File. According to Bughwar, who relayed things from creator LocalThunk, you’re supposed to say it as follows: “BAH-luh-trow”.

Even if you’re been using a different pronunciation, that’s not an issue. Bughwar mentioned that LocalThunk “doesn’t really mind how people say it”.

This answer about how to pronounce Balatro is somewhat different than what was shared previously. About a year ago, a representative from PlayStack told Polygon that LocalThunk wasn’t actually sure about the pronunciation and was it was more about “whatever makes people happy.” But that same rep also noted that there’s another answer, which is “BAH-lah-troh.” Finally, once again from the same person, they noted: “As long as you pronounce it with confidence, it is correct!”
