Best Buy Canada says Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders begin April 2 [update: new pre-order details, possibly April 9]

Best Buy Canada has announced that it will open pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 on April 2, 2025.

Many have expected reservations to begin next week, but this is the first time a retailer has come forward with any sort of official information. Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 will be held on April 2, and there’s a very strong chance that we’ll be getting the console’s release date during that presentation. Best Buy acknowledged the Nintendo Direct in its post, indicating that pre-orders will start sometime after the event concludes.

Thus far Nintendo has only said that Switch 2 will launch later in 2025. No additional retailers have shared information about pre-orders, but if a release date / price are shared last week, it’s likely that others will follow suit.

March 28: After publishing its post, Best Buy Canada has removed its post. That means information was either posted early or is incorrect.

It could be the latter, as Inside Gaming is now claiming that pre-orders are starting on April 9. According to the outlet, it has received internal emails and documents from a large US retailer indicating that reservations will begin on April 9 and are expecting to sell out on the same day due to a limited unit allocation from Nintendo. Additionally, those who pre-order will receive an exclusive collectible coin.
