Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection reveals release date, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, physical release

Posted on August 1, 2025 by (@NE_Brian) in News, Switch, Switch 2

Ahead of EVO – which starts today – Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection has revealed its release date, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, and a physical release. At least physically, the package heads to Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch on December 12, 2025. We’re waiting to see if the digital launch is happening earlier as the Xbox store previously had that down for September 30 before the listing was removed.

Mortal Kombat Trilogy came out in 1996. While largely the same as Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, it featured characters and stages restored from Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat 2.

Meanwhile, Atari and Digital Eclipse are going all out with a physical release for Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection. On Nintendo Switch 2, the package is on the cartridge, meaning no game-key card. There’ll also be three versions to choose from.

Retailers will carry a standard edition and Deluxe Edition. The Deluxe Edition contains a steelbook case, magnet, poster, lenticular card, arcade flyers, and more. Limited Run also seems to be preparing a collector’s edition that contains a Goro controller holder statue, hardcover art and lore book, and much more. Pre-orders are already open for the standard version and Deluxe Edition on Amazon here.
