Next Mario movie may actually be called Super Mario Galaxy

Consider this part news and part rumor, but the next movie based on the Super Mario Bros. series may actually be called Super Mario Galaxy.

Fans have come across the domain names SuperMarioGalaxy-LaPelicula.com and supermariogalaxy-lefilm.com. These two redirect to Universal Pictures’ homepage in Spanish and French respectively. We know that a new Mario movie is coming out next year, but beyond that, nothing has really been said or shown.

What’s making things a bit confusing is that we previously thought that Super Mario World would be the name of the upcoming Mario movie. Earlier this year, this was mentioned by NBC Universal in an article covering its upcoming slate. However, it was eventually removed. It was either a mistake or information that was shared much too early.

There could be a few possibilities here. The Super Mario Galaxy domains could be protective URLs or something along those lines, though the timing is curious. Perhaps the original Super Mario World name we heard about originally will ultimately be the correct title. Nintendo and NBCUniversal could even throw a real curveball into the mix by calling it something else altogether.

There’s a chance that we could find out what’s happening tomorrow. A new Nintendo Direct will air, which could include news about the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. – and perhaps news about the film.
