Nintendo issues statement on recent claim that it was hacked

Following recent reports, Nintendo has issued a statement regarding claims that the company was hacked.

You may have heard about this a few days ago. Crimson Collective, which previously hacked software company Red Hat, claimed that they breached Nintendo as well. However, there were questions as to whether or not they were actually successful and how much damage was done (if any).

Based on Nintendo’s response, it looks like the hack was on the lighter side. The company said in a statement: “We have not confirmed any leak of personal information, and there has been no leak of development or business information.” Sankei relays that some external servers that display Nintendo’s website were impacted, but there is no evidence of damage to customers or a wider company intrusion.

In other words, it seems like the hack won’t really impact Nintendo or its fans in any way. Don’t expect to hear about any leaks regarding upcoming games or anything of the sort.

This is a much different situation than what happened to Pokemon developer Game Freak, which was hacked last year. Information spread and became known as the “Teraleak”. The Teraleak was back in the news this week – a year later – as tons of new information was uncovered about cancelled and upcoming games.
