With Grid Legends: Deluxe Edition launching imminently on Nintendo Switch 2, Digital Foundry has delivered a technical verdict on the game, which covers details like frame rate and resolution. This is a particularly interesting release as there are different modes to play around with for docked / handheld play.

Here’s the full rundown:

– Switch 2 looks better than the PS4 version with graphics mode
– Switch 2 uses a dynamic resolution that sits between 1080p and 1440p vs. 1080p on PS4
– Runs at 30 FPS in graphics mode except for rare dips such as with replays
– Game size is smaller on Switch 2 (28.4GB vs. 38.5GB on Xbox Series S)
– Resolution in performance mode is about 792p to 1080p
– This mode targets 60 FPS
– Cube maps update at half in performance mode and are lower resolution
– Environmental shadows are also static here
– Volumetric lighting seems reduced or absent in performance mode plus SSR mostly gone
– Game has an enhanced visual effects toggle that can improved performance a bit; turns off vehicle sparks, celebratory confetti, and a mist effect
– Handheld performance mode: 684p to 828p resolution, targets 60 FPS
– Handheld battery saver mode: around 540p, 30 FPS
– Handheld balanced mode: 540p to 864p, 40 FPS
– Handheld graphics: 792p to 1080p, 30 FPS
– All of these portable modes have volumetric lights off, trackside SSR on for handheld balanced and handheld graphics
– Handheld performance mode seems to be in the 40s and 50s often, but hits 60 FPS in lighter moments
– This is less of an issue because of the VRR support
– Some differences favor the Switch 2 version over Xbox Series S
