Bayonetta 3 frame rate resolution

Bayonetta 3 is finally here on Switch, and Digital Foundry has now explored the game from a technical standpoint, including frame rate and resolution. It unfortunately seems that things are a bit rough in this department, but perhaps PlatinumGames will patch things up with a future update.

Here are the notable tidbits:

– Frame rate and visuals are inconsistent
– Environments and arenas larger than previous entries
– They now have less granular detail due to this
– Camera spends more time zoomed out
– PlatinumGames used heavy amount of dithering
– Low quality texture filtering
– Bayonetta 3 resolution is 810p when docked
– Portable resolution seems to be just below 480p
– Environments can be drab, but beautiful environments to explore as well
– Regular occurrence of pop-in for environmental objects
– Low resolution alpha used for some effects
– Cutscenes run at 30 frames per second and they ramp up visual quality
– Some cutscenes are now displayed as video clips
– Transition between video playback and real time is seamless
– Bayonetta 3 gameplay often targets 60 frames per second
– Rarely manages to reach this
– Even in a completely empty battlefield, the frame rate is unstable while looking around
– Combat has unlocked frame rate and is unstable
– Larger set pieces update at 30 FPS
– Load times are brief
