Blizzard has been thinking about a Switch port of Overwatch as soon as the system launched

Overwatch finally releases on Switch this month. It’ll be quite a long while after the system came out, but that wasn’t due to a lack of interest in Blizzard’s part.

Director Jeff Kaplan told The Verge that the team has been thinking about a port since the Switch’s initial launch. He told the site:

“Literally the day the Switch came out, we were thinking about it. I remember immediately talking to people around the office saying, ‘What would it take for us to be here?’

It was much easier to get Diablo on the device than it was to get Overwatch. And, like everything we do here, we wanted to make sure to do it right. It was just a long process of figuring out how to handle the development in a way that we felt like we would be very proud of the end product.”

Producer Wes Yanagi added that “the bulk of our efforts on the Switch were a lot of heavy optimization.”
