Capcom explains why it’s releasing three Resident Evil games at the same time on Nintendo Switch 2

If you watched the most recent Nintendo Direct, you likely saw the news that Capcom is bringing not one, but three Resident Evil games to Nintendo Switch 2 early next year. The system will be getting Resident Evil 7, Village, and Requiem at the same time.

Capcom’s Masato Kumazawa has now spoken about what went into that decision as part of a recent interview. That discussion reveals that the company first prototyped Resident Evil Village on Nintendo Switch 2, and after seeing the positive results, wanted to try porting Requiem. Capcom felt the results there were also promising, and decided to throw in Resident Evil 7 as well. Having them all ready at the same time made sense for Capcom so that players could “just jump in” and start at 7 or with the series’ newest entry.

Kumazawa said in an interview with VGC:

“Actually, Village was the game we first prototyped and tried out on Switch 2 hardware when we first got the kit.

We had cloud versions originally for Resident Evil 7 that ran on the first Nintendo Switch, so we had a bit of a baseline there for the hardware itself – its predecessor at least – and Village running natively on Switch 2 was such a smooth process that we thought: “Oh. Well, we can look at Requiem as well”.

That, as we said, went smoothly, so we had two of the three kind of working at that point, and we were like ‘well, let’s go the whole hog and add in 7’.

It just made sense to us to release them all at the same time when Requiem comes out, so that in one go, you go from not having these games on Switch 2 to – if someone is a new player and they want to check out the three most recent games in the series – they can just jump in. You can go from the new game, or start at 7 and go through to 9.”

Resident Evil 7, Village, and Requiem are all coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on February 27, 2026. First handheld footage of Requiem came in this week, which we have here.
