Carmen Sandiego game announced for Switch
Today, publisher Gameloft and developer HarperCollins Productions announced a new Switch game based on the Carmen Sandiego franchise. A release is planned for Q1 2025.
The new project is based on the animated series that ran from 2019-2021. Players will take on the role of Carmen Sandiego herself as they look to stop the criminal organization VILE. Player, who appeared on the Netflix show and references the unseen live-action figure from the 1994 animated series Where on Earth Is Carmen Sandiego?, acts as your sidekick and helps out with “navigating missions, solving puzzles, and outsmarting VILE operatives.”
The upcoming title is confirmed to support a story-driven campaign and “classic modes.” Gameloft had this to say about the gameplay:
“It features all of the investigative fun of the original core game loop (collecting clues & tracking VILE operatives around the world) combined with brand new on the ground immersive exploration of cities. We have also included a classic mode called ‘The Acme Files,’ which is a heartfelt tribute to the Carmen Sandiego games of the ’80s. Nostalgic players as well as fans of the Netflix series will also find hidden Easter eggs throughout the game’s locations—little surprises we are excited for the community to discover!”
