“Our current plans are to continue manufacturing Nintendo DS Lite globally. The DS Lite has been a highly popular handheld console and has brought fun to an expanded audience of gamers – male and female; young and old – and sales remain strong. That said, it is true that our key focus in the UK for 2010 will be the Nintendo DSi and DSi XL.” – Nintendo statement

If I had to choose between purchasing a DSi or DS Lite, I’d go with the DSi (or XL). However, I can understand consumers who would rather purchase the Lite if they aren’t really interested in DSiWare or some of the other features available on the DSi.

14 January 2010 – The fun of handheld gaming can now be shared with friends and family as the Nintendo DSi XL, which has the largest total screen size of any handheld console on the market and a wider viewing angle, launches across Europe on 5 March 2010.

The new handheld console sports two 4.2 inch screens – 93% bigger than the screen on the Nintendo DS Lite. In addition, the new screens have a much wider viewing angle, making it easy for people to watch and share the fun. Whether it’s encouraging family or friends to beat your score on A Little Bit of… Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training, solving the mysteries of Professor Layton together or simply offering ‘helpful’ backseat advice during a frantic race in Mario Kart, the Nintendo DSi XL opens up a new world of shared handheld gaming whilst breathing new life into your favourite Nintendo DS games as you experience them on the big screen.

? 2009-10 targets revised downwards

? Releases of Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Conviction™ and R.U.S.E™ postponed to 2010-11

? Initial information on the 2010-11 line-up
Paris, January 13, 2010 – Today, Ubisoft updated its 2009-10 targets.

The sales targets for third-quarter and full-year 2009-10 have been revised downwards to €495 million and around €860 million respectively, from the previously announced figures of €540 million and €1,040 million.

These downward revisions are due to the following factors:

– A further correction in the market for DS titles. After several years of very strong growth, the significant correction of the DS market in 2009 particularly affected Ubisoft. As a result, despite relatively robust sales for Wii casual games, and particularly the success of Just Dance, sales in the casual segment are expected to be down for the full year by around €160 million, representing a drop of around 50%.
