DS

If the latest rumors are to be believed, both Capcom and SEGA will reveal SEGA vs. Capcom: Great Clash Generation for the DS at TGS. The game would based as a “hybrid RPG-fighting game” with a release date scheduled for Q1 2009. The rumors also explain that SEGA would be the main developer alongside Dimps, with Capcom acting as a supervisor. The character roster is apparently unknown, though Mega Man and Sonic are expected to make an appearance. TGS begins this Thursday, so we’ll know if this rumor holds any weight soon enough.

“Right out of the gate [the DSi audience] is probably the hardcore gamers. They’re usually the early adopters that want to get the latest version of something, and they’ll be the ones that put it through its paces the hardest and give us all kind of feedback and tell us what they like and don’t like.” – Charlie Scibetta, Nintendo of America spokesperson

The feeling I’ve been assuming is that some people will be perfectly fine with their DS/DS Lite, while others will move on to the DSi due to some of the new features it presents. Anyone planning on picking up the DSi when it launches?

With Nintendo’s newest announcement of the DSi, many have already began analyzing the system’s potential, including its impact on the market. Now, analyst Michael Patcher offered his opinion on DSi downloads, stating that it can be a “game changer.”

“I suspect that broader appeal will ultimately be determined by the quantity and quality of downloadable content. If we see games like Boingz and Tetris (new Wii Ware games) exported to the DSi, or see new innovations that use the camera, I think it will be a game changer.”

Patcher also commented on Sony’s recent comments, in which it was stated that Sony isn’t sure if the DSi “will be a product that expands their user base [beyond] under 12.”

“I think that the core of the user base is between 6 and 18 (probably 75% of active users), so Koller isn’t that far off. The biggest reason for Western users over 18 to buy a DS is the games – like Brain Age – that appeal to older users. The camera feature, brighter screens, thinner case, etc. are nice to have, but don’t magically make my mom want to have one. I don’t see how the device suddenly appeals to adults unless Nintendo is able to demonstrate that the camera feature allows for more sophisticated game play.”

In an interview with VentureBeat, Reggie Fils-Aime stated that Nintendo has no plans on “It’s [DS downloads] a nice added business model but it’s not something that’s going to take over retail game sales,” he said. “We’ll be able to see the sales growth and plan for it. But I guess similar to home consoles, the consumer will want an experience that’s best delivered through physical goods, simply because of the memory size required. There will always be those opportunities for big, in-depth games on retail products.”

Fils-Aime also revealed that
