SANTA MONICA, Calif. – May 01, 2008 – The Game Factory, an international publisher of family-friendly and casual videogames, today announced it has signed a licensing agreement with Seven Towns Limited to publish Rubik’s World, a 3D puzzle game experience for the Nintendo Wii™ and DS™ systems, both inspired by the Rubik’s Cube.

“The Rubik’s Cube is one of the most well known icons in the gaming and entertainment industry,” said Henrik Mathiasen, president of the Game Factory. “We’re honored that Seven Towns Limited has chosen us to take the Rubik’s experience to the next level with Rubik’s World. We feel confident that we have created a concept for the whole family that is innovative, challenging and addictive, offering a new twist in the puzzle genre while keeping the Rubik’s Cube core values alive.”

“We’re pleased to be working with the Game Factory to enhance the Rubik’s brand with Rubik’s World,” said David Hedley Jones, for Seven Towns Limited, a London-based company that has introduced hundreds of successful original games and toys throughout the world in the past 35 years. “We’re confident that everybody will enjoy this video game experience.”

In the June issue of Nintendo Power, the preview teases its subscribers with, “As we head into summer, expect things to heat up with Nintendo Power. July’s issue will include big updates of Ghostbuster’s, Sonic Chronicles, and Time Hollow. We may even have a surprise or two. Can you find the clues we’ve hidden in the moon?”

I’m pretty awful at breaking down mysteries, so I’m not too sure what Nintendo Power may have in store. If anyone has a guess, feel free to leave a comment.

SimCity Creator 26-Sep NDS
SimCity Creator 26-Sep Wii

These two listings apparently popped up and were discovered in a European release listing. It is possible that the DS game could be the title that was released in Japan not too long ago, but what lays in store for a Wii version is up in the air.

The Conduit
– FPS, pushes technology, not war-time shooter
– D.C. under attack by aliens
– All seeing eye: Walk up to doorways, pull out item – interact with lock to find hidden passageways, monsters
– Matt & Bozon have seen footage, won’t talk about it yet. Video in next few weeks
– High Voltage still working on making the game look better

Gyrostar
– Space-shooter, good music, effects
– Only $7, supposed to launch with WiiWare
– Looks like an Xbox Live Arcade game, also looks better in a higher resolution

Animales de la Muerte
– IGN team excited for it
– Nintendo not regulating content for WiiWare, but no games with AO games
– Hope to show a game like WiiWare soon
– More High Voltage games in future

Prince of Persia
– No Wii version, not much news on the game
– Hope it’s more of a traditional PoP game

I’ll consider writing up a summary of this issue’s Nintendo Power, but for now, the review scores are as follows…

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon : Explorers of Time/Darkness (DS) : 7.5
Drone Tactics (DS) – 7.0
Summon Night: Twin Age (DS) – 7.5
Super Dodgeball Brawlers (DS) – 6.5
Jake Hunter: Detective Chronicles (DS) – 5.0
Top Spin 3 (DS) – 6.0
Top Spin 3 (Wii) – 7.0
Iron Man (DS) – 5.0
Iron Man (Wii) – 5.5
Blast Works: Build, Trade, Destroy (Wii) – 8.5
Boom Blox (Wii) – 8.0
We Ski (Wii) – 6.0

I’m very proud to see that Blast Works and Boom Blox received stellar scores. I hope, however, that gamers will actually buy these titles and prove to third parties they can be successful on the Wii.

Reviews:

Mario Kart Wii – B+, C+, C
Good: A few great new tracks and powerups
Bad: Dumbed-down gameplay, predictable design

Blast Works: Build, Trade, Destroy – A, A-, B-
Good: Rich level/object editor
Bad: That’s pretty much if after beating the campaign

Castle of Shikigami III – C+, C+, B-
Good: It’s a shoot-em-up on Wii
Bad: It’s too short and too tough

Myst – C-, D, D
Good: Some of the new tools help
Bad: though most of them are useless

I know a lot of people would be more than pleased to see Castlevania on the Wii. The new game title (Castlevania Jugement) that was discovered not too long ago may give this rumor a bit of validity. All we can do is hope for the best and wait to see if Capcom has anything in store.
