According to a Nintendo of Japan customer service representative, the 3DS will be region-locked. This means that if you import a Japanese system and attempt to play a North American game, it simply will not work.

As disappointing as the news is, I don’t think this should be a big surprise to anyone. After the DSi implemented region locking, there really was no going back. Nintendo has yet to officially comment on the issue, but I’d say this rumor is very likely.

Super Monkey Ball 3D will be released in Japan on March 3rd for 4410 yen.

A few months ago, we learned that the 3DS’ Activity Log feature could act as a pedometer. The amount of steps you take will be tracked by the system and recorded each day. It looks like there’s another element to the feature, however.

Apparently a system will be in place called “Game Coins.” As one would expect, the coins count will increase as players carry the system around. Additional content can be unlocked in certain titles using the coins. It’s an interesting idea, to say the least!
