Dragon Quest VIII sold 585,000 copies in its first week in Japan, according to Media Create. The sales tracker has since provided additional information about the game’s performance.

Dragon Quest VIII ended up selling through 72.27 of its initial stock. For titles released on the 3DS during 2015, it places second next to Yo-kai Watch Busters, which sold 694,000 copies in its opening week. However, when compared to the Dragon Quest VII remake on 3DS (first week sales of 828,000 units, 83.29 percent sell-through, debuted on February 2013), both sales numbers and sell-through have fallen.

On the other hand, big name titles have been a driving force in 3DS hardware sales. Of special note was the sales of the New 3DS XL. The Metallic Red color debuted in Japan, and sold 13,000 units sold having been released on the same day as those games. New 3DS hardware rose to 38,000 units sold, an increase of 192.87 percent compared to last week.

Update: The Yoshi’s Woolly World amiibo bundle is now up as well.

Original (8/31): The standard New 3DS is finally coming to North America, Nintendo announced at the GameStop Managers Conference today.

Nintendo will be offering the system as part of a bundle with Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer. Included in the package is the New 3DS, the game, two cover plates, and one amiibo cards. Pricing is set at $219.99. Just like Happy Home Designer, the new bundle launches on September 25.

Nintendo also reconfirmed news that we heard earlier today: Bowser and Toad Wii Remote Plus controllers are due out on September 11, while the Yoshi version will arrive on October 16. All three are GameStop exclusives and cost $39.99 each. Consumers can add $10 to their eShop accounts and get the new Bowser AR card at no additional cost, which can be used in the free Photos with Mario app.

Nintendo revealed today that the standard New 3DS will be making its way to North America on September 25 as a bundle with Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer. At the moment, this package is the only way to pick up the system in the states.

GamesBeat reached out to Nintendo to see if the New 3DS will be offered as a standalone unit. Unfortunately, the company only told the publication: “We have nothing to announce on this topic.”

That’s not too helpful! Today was definitely a great day for fans of the standard New 3DS, but hopefully it will be available on its own at some point in the future.
