Wii U

Splinter Cell: Blacklist is primarily developed by Ubisoft Toronto. But for the Wii U version, Ubisoft pegged its Shangai studio, the same team behind Pandora Tomorrow and I Am Alive.

Blacklist creative director Maxime Beland wouldn’t discuss the Wii U version during a recent press event, but did say the following:

“We have amazing brands, and if we make great games on all the platforms people will be happy. As long as the quality’s there and the game is fun it’s going to work or have a chance of working.”

Beland added:

“What I like about what we’re doing with the Wii U is that Splinter Cell’s always about gadgets, and with the controller it’s a natural extension. It’s interesting on that side for sure, because we didn’t have to invent new ways of interacting with the game to support the hardware. It just makes sense.”

While Ubisoft Shangai will devote a good chunk of its resources to Blacklist’s Wii U version, it is also wkring on the game’s co-op modes for all versions.

Bethesda announced Wolfenstein: The New Order earlier today. The game is heading to the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, and next-gen platforms.

Could the Wii U be included in the latter group? Bethesda’s Pete Hines wouldn’t say when asked on Twitter, noting:

Bethesda hasn’t been keen on supporting Nintendo in the past, so I wouldn’t count on this one coming to Wii U. Still, it is interesting that Hines didn’t say “no” outright.

At this point, you can pretty much forget about any kind of Injustice: Gods Among Us downloadable content for Wii U. Warner Bros. was asked about Wii U DLC just ahead of the game’s launch last month, but continues to offer up the following comment:

“We don’t have any more specific details to release about the Wii U version that haven’t already been made public. If we do have new details to discuss, we’ll release them publicly.”

What makes this particularly strange is that Nintendo had said Injustice would support DLC during a previous Nintendo Direct. The game’s box also mentions the ability to download additional content.

DLC itself shouldn’t be an issue. We’ve seen plenty of games support the functionality, including Assassin’s Creed III and Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper.

This week’s GameStop ad has gone live. It’s another mostly boring week, but we do once again see that the retailer will be giving out a medal with the purchase of Sniper Elite V2.

The full lineup of deals can be found in the circular below:

“Edward Kenway is a raucous and bawdy chap, but he’s also a married man, and one of his primary motivation in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is to get rich and prove himself a ‘man of quality’ to his family and betters. So there is a special woman in Edward’s life, but there are also other not-so-special women as well.”

– Lead Scriptwriter Darby McDevitt

McDevitt also said that the game should end up being “more open and free than ever before”, which makes sense given the location and setting of the game. An open-world pirate game wouldn’t be terribly good if it weren’t free and open!

DICE hasn’t managed to get Frostbite running on Wii U in any form.

Forget Frostbite 3. The studio hasn’t even had much luck with Frostbite 2.

A twitter exchange between DICE’s Frostbite technical director Johan Andersson and a fan reveals that the company’s attempts to run Frostbite 2 smoothly on Wii U haven’t exactly been proven fruitful. Some tests were done, but the results were “not too promising”, according to Andersson.
