This is the last bit of news that comes from Capcom Product Manager Colin Ferris…

On doing anything again with Zack & Wiki/similar approach to gameplay:

“Well, you know, Zack and Wiki…Another one in a long line of very highly rated Capcom games that unfortunately did not sell very well. We can take a part of the blame on ourselves by having it star a shirtless boy pirate. That is actually a personal favorite of a lot of people in Capcom, so don’t be surprised if you see it again but we have nothing in the works at the moment.”

On bringing Tatsunoko vs. Capcom to U.S. shores…

“We are looking at how to bring Tat vs. Capcom here. As many of you might realize, we really want to bring it out here even though we know it’s going to be a little bit more of a core title…We love our fans and we love releasing titles even if they only sell a little bit. As long as we can make it profitable…And honestly, that’s the bigger deal with Tatsunoko vs. Capcom – the liscencing is sort of out of control on that one.”

According to Nikkei, the Wii will reach the 50 million units sold milestone this month. There are four business days remaining in March, so it is likely that an announcement will be made soon. Nintendo’s own forecasts also hinted that the Wii would attain 50 million units sold before the end of the fiscal year.

World’s Premier Motorcycle Racing Championship Game Crosses the Finish Line March 24th
SAN MATEO, Calif – March 24, 2009 – Capcom® a leading worldwide developer and publisher of videogames, has today confirmed that MotoGP for the Wii™ home video game system will ship on March 24, 2009. This is the first officially licensed MotoGP title to be published for the Wii™ platform and comes as part of Capcom’s five year deal with Dorna Sports, providing exclusive rights to publish video games based on the world’s premier motorcycle championship across all hardware platforms.

MotoGP for Wii™ turns the Wii Remote™ into a virtual set of handlebars to deliver the definitive two-wheeled racing experience. Players are put at the center of the MotoGP experience by letting them join a team and compete alongside their sporting heroes in all three race classes – 125cc, 250cc and MotoGP. The game features a scaled and competitive AI which adjusts within limits to give a more enjoyable race experience on the lower levels but shows no mercy in the higher levels.

An Italian Nintendo press release suggests that Nintendo’s upcoming boxer title Punch-Out will make use of the Wii Balance Board. While using the Wii remote and nunchuck, players can throw punches, dodge blows, and weave. It’s a bit odd that Balance Board support was not mentioned in any other press release, but I can guarantee that that Italian release explicitly confirms that the game will have Balance Board support.

Update: Added some more details – looks like Iwata will be announcing quite a few titles tomorrow (Thanks for the news tip, Jake)

Some information regarding Nintendo’s presence at GDC are available, including new game announcements, thanks to the IGN Nintendo Team (and 1UP). On the latest Nintendo Voice Chat podcast, it was stated that Punch-Out will finally be playable on the showfloor. Impressions of the game will be available sometime this week. The DSi and Excitebots: Trick Racing are likely to be at the event as well and the DSi itself is sure to be a focal point of Satoru Iwata’s hour-long speech. Strangely, members of the press will only be allowed to film the first five minutes of Mr. Iwata’s speech.

Update below comes from 1UP’s Sam Kennedy…

“I’d say Nintendo’s Iwata keynote is the one that you’ll really want to watch (Jeremy will be live blogging it tomorrow morning). I thought he was just going to be talking about Motion Plus and DSi, but it turns out he’s going to be announcing quite a few new games — for Wii, Wiiware, and Virtual Console (and this won’t just be Nintendo titles, but also third party stuff). I’ve already heard about a few of them (including one that makes me all giddy…I can’t wait for tomorrow now).”

GDC

– Doesn’t really start until Wednesday
– Iwata will have a keynote
– Can only film first 5 mins of the keynote

Punch-Out

– Playable at GDC
– Looks pretty good
– Almost a remake – what they want
– Disco Kid is a new character
– 13 fighters
– Will have multiplayer
– Looks like there are different moves for old characters
– 13 fighers doesn’t seem like too much
– They will have impressions on the game
